Piada Trophy

PIADA TROPHY (THERE IS A MISTAKE) Writing about the Piada Trophy is easy, almost everybody knows the history … Anyway I’ll try to summarize it. Finland 2006, European Championship. Among the European superstars Snipe Sailors who came from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Spain, Portugal … two men were asking themselves what are they doing there. These two men were (in order of appearance) Giovanni Stella (aka Johnny Estrella) & Alberto Perdisa.

PIADA TROPHY

(THERE IS A MISTAKE)

Writing about the Piada Trophy is easy, almost everybody knows the history …

Anyway I’ll try to summarize it.

These “two” were sponsorized by a “Piadina” kiosk of Cervia (Italy) that used the modified logo of “Prada”. They worn the T-shirt with this logo.Casa Italia and the T-shirt had a great success so the two men decided to organize a fun.At that time we had only the name for the regatta: “Piada Trophy”. No other Ideas …

The funny side was organizing the post regatta events and the super idea of the Kart Race was the top. “Romagna è la terra dei motori!”
We have always tried to organize the “perfect” regatta in the “perfect” weekend … and if you have some idea, it is not so difficult.

These are the things you need (ingredients):

  1. A boat that doesn’t cost $ 100,000
  2. Many teams who want to have fun
  3. Some of the best teams of the world
  4. Nightlife
  5. Drink and food … as much as possible
  6. Sun, hot, a sandy beach … and above all many many many … chicks 🙂
  7. Sponsors (money)
  8. Do you think this is sufficient?

NO! Do you want to know the secret of the Piada Trophy?

I don’t tell you! First, because it is a secret, second because I don’t really know which is the secret!

This year the Piada Trophy moves to Talamone, Tuscany.

You can be sure that all the Piada Team are doing the best to organize and give you a fantastic event in a fantastic place.

BUT … Alberto and I have a dream! Find a go-kart track in Miami and in the future organize the Piada Trophy there! Mr. Old Man, please, help us!

I hope to see you at the next Piada!

Ciao,
Giovanni

P.s. Explanation about the subtitle (There is a mistake)

During the prizegiving dinner at the Euopeans in Finland, a group of Norwegian sailors was looking our Piada T-shirt and said: “There are sailors here from the America’s Cup Team Prada. But there is a mistake on their Tshirt. They have the “I” instead od “R”!”

Our mistake has been to have not thought about the Piada Trophy before!

Team Piada wants to say a ton of “grazie” to:

our friends from Germany, Belgium, Spain, Brazil, United States, Japan, Norway, Denmark, Poland, Great Britain, Portugal, Croatia, Argentina …

Piada Trophy is absolutely one of the best times we have ever had sailing a Snipe! You all are the best hosts in the world and Italy is...well...oh so molto bene! We are trying to figure a way to come back again. Don't you dare move it to Miami - it would not be the Piada Trophy. Sure, there is plenty of warm sunshine, but the food and wine cannot compare. Not even close! I will never forget the go-cart track and seeing Augie Diaz in an orange jumpsuit and hair net! Must find those pictures...
