Friday evening the Snipes rolled in from Michigan and Ohio. Ian Barge and his jazz Quartet kept things hopping and the hors d'oeuvre were much appreciated. Registration went smoothly due to No Entry Fee.
Saturday winds were very light from the northwest, and after a short AP the fleet was off. The first race was a battle between Tod Sacket, John Johns and Jno Disch. Finish order after some close racing was Tod, Jno, and John with Jim Disch in 4th place.
The second race, in a little more breeze was a repeat with Tod 1st, Jno 2nd, J.J. 3rd and Chris Hains in 4th place.
The third race had some close racing in light air and saw the finish order of Tod 1st, J.J. 2nd, Jno 3rd, and Brad Anderson from Royal Hamilton Y.C. 4th.
Back ashore the party was rocking with the dance band going till 2am. A great chicken dinner was served and then some lively dancing.
Sunday the fleet headed out for very light airs so AP was raised waiting for some air. 11am saw a southerly come in at 5 knots and keep increasing.
The fourth race saw the same gang in the spotlight and the finish order was Jno 1st, Tod 2nd, J.J. 3rd and Chris in 4th place.
The fifth race had a little shake up as Gweneth Crook rounded windward in 1st with J.J. hot in pursuit. After some good racing the finish order was J.J. 1st, Gweneth 2nd, Tod 3rd and Chris 4th. Jno was OCS at the start.
Ashore after packing boats and some wild rum punch with the Reggae boys blasting, it was party time. Jerk chicken and reggae and rum are sure a good combination.
Congratulations to Tod Sacket from Mentor Harbour Y.C. winning the Ontario Open. 2nd was John Johns and 3rd was Jno Disch.
The new Canadian Champion is Chris Hains. 2nd was Gweneth Crook and 3rd was Brad Anderson
A very enjoyable weekend was had by all with great weather, good sailing, SERIOUS partying, and all with no entry fee.
