Light westerly winds kept everyone on their toes. For the most part it was a "go right" kind of day but in the first race the Bustamante's, Callison/Fisher and Sackett's were able to work up the middle-left rounding in nice shape at the first mark. Hal Gilreath and Ned Jones picked their way through the fleet on the downwind rounding second behind Sackett. Persistent shifts to the right made decisions fairly easy from there.
Race Two started out with a rare general recall from Commodore Crook. The second attempt went better. The breeze had finished going right for the duration of the first leg and the boats coming off the left end squirted off the line in better pressure and again were able to work the left side of the course and back across the fleet at the first mark. After that it was time to protect the right again.
Dinner and Dark and Stormies kept everyone happy on the beach that evening.
Day two served up a nasty Northeaster. Id ventured out early in the committee boat and ran up the AP flag before the fleet even made it off the dock. This was the right call as the breeze ended up blowing 20 - 25 kts for the rest of the day. Ian Brown and Susan Cushman could not pass up the opportunity for some heavy weather practice. Upon returning, Susan's only comment was "wow those waves were #$!% BIG!".
Many thanks to everyone for coming long distances to attend. We plan to hold a regatta the same weekend next year so mark your calendar in advance.
