44th Frostbite Series at Blue Circle SC

he 44th Snipe Frostbite winter series at Blue Circle Sailing Club ended with a brisk and chilly North westerly. This classic twenty-race series runs from October to December. After the first ten starts a three horse race began to emerge, with Peter Wolstenholme and Liz Crouch winning four, Richard Lambert and Alex Francis ahead in three and Brian and Anne Gregory taking the others. Only sixteen races were started due to excessive winds in the third and ninth weeks.

Stamina is a necessary requirement over such a long series and Lambert and Francis were able to sail in all but two races. Wolstenholme and Crouch were never beaten but were only able to complete nine starts. Defending champion Brian Gregory's challenge faded in the second half as work commitments prevented him from sailing more. In mid fleet, the father/son combination of Peter and Andrew Wibroe gradually improved and their best result, as second in the seventeenth race, underlined their progress. John White and Giovanni Sacchi sailed well but their irregular appearances undermined their challenge.
