In winds of less than 10 knots over 5 days of racing, Bibi Juetz and crew Felipe Vasconcellos of Brazil bested the top 28 Masters from around the world to win the World title. Bibi is the first woman to win this title, and was assisted by her crew, Felipe Vasconcellos, who recently finished 2nd in the Junior Worlds as skipper, with his brother as crew.
The 8th World Masters were held on Lake San Roque in the town of Villa Carlos Paz, outside Cordoba, Argentina. The lake provided shifty conditions for all crews, but excellent race management kept the courses even and fair. Bibi led from start to finish, never finishing worse than 5th overall.
9 countries were represented of the 28 crews coming from as far as Japan, Finland, France, Spain, Canada and the US, as well as being represented by South Americans from Chile, Brazil and Argentina. Skippers had to be a minimum of 45 to compete, but total age in the boat between skipper and crew must reach 80 years.
Social events were the highlight with a trip into the mountains to view the local scenery. Local hosts were magnificent in hospitality and friendliness! Everyone vowed to return to Horsens, Denmark in the year 2000 for the next and 9th edition of the World Masters.
