Wake up and pay attention. This is a reminder that the USA Masters National Championship will be held October 19-23, 1998 at the Atlanta Yacht Club on beautiful Lake Allatoona, which is just 30 minutes northwest of Atlanta, GA. The event will be a true Masters following the original concept of take it easy on the old folks and have a great time meeting your old friends. No more than 2 races each day and none starting before 1:00 PM. The races will be a reasonable length and remember that masters rules will not allow us to sail if it is blowing really hard ! There are social events planned for each night. You will have ample time to meet your old frineds and tell/remember ? the usual 'stories' of old. Based on the feedback so far we are going to have many of then infamous old salts here as well as a truely international flavor, as we expect people from many Nations including Brasil, Argentina, Canada, Bermuda, Nassau. They can't win the USA Masters Championship trophy but they can win the event trophy. Many people are planning on coming just to hang around and meet old friends. The comprehensive registration/meal/favor/party fee for both skipper and crew combined will be $ 150. We are attempting to arrange housing at or near the club for all interested parties. What a deal ! If you are a Master you should not miss this. People will be talking about it until they forget !
For those that know the Coleman family from Valdosta, Compton Coleman and his blue grass band will be performing on Thursday night at the banquet. He played at the North Americans at Lake Lanier a few years ago as well as at the first World Masters held at AYC back in the 1980's. Just listening to him play is reason enough to come.
More info including the registration form will be coming out in an upcoming Bulletin, a mailing, and it will be posted on the Web page and circulated on SCIRA e mail.
Stay awake and pay attention. See you there,
Don
The Masters will be held Monday, October 19 thru Thursday October 22. Monday will be a rigging and practice race day. Two races are planned on Tuesday and Wednesday and one on Thursday. Races are scheduled to start at 1:00pm so you can have lots of time to relax your old bones, chat with your friends. A brunch will be served each day from 9:30 am to noon. Housing will be provided to those who would like. Moderately priced motels are nearby. Charter boats will be available, or we will try to help you charter a boat from your area. Crews will be available. Remember, the skipper must be at least 45 and the team must combine to at least 80 years. Quality, meals, entertainment and activites are planned.
After the Friday layday you can then sail the Halloween Regatta and attend the annual Halloween bash and costume party. What a neat end to a great season of Snipe sailing.
