Long-time Sniper Jules Ivester (PRO) aboard Sonny Mevers' UMBO modified the format from five longer races to seven shorter races to the delight of all the entrants.
The racing on Saturday went from medium air sailing with no tide to light-to-medium air sailing with a very strong tide. The successful path to the finish turned out to be highly affected by the tide. The shore was a good place to be!!!!
The "Pub Crawl" through downtown Charleston was great and Charleston was jumping.
Racing on Sunday was in moderate breezes with less emphasis on the tide. Jamie, Dustin, and Oliver battled throughout the regatta for the top position with John Muhlhaussen leading the over forty crowd. Steve Burns and Don Hackbarth provided the most entertainment!!!
Charleston Snipe Fleet Captain Mike Coffman encourages all southeastern Snipers to let us know which weekend next fall would be best for all of you. Snipe Fleet 52 wants to have a much better turnout next year. The James Island Yacht Club under new Commodore Steve Burns will be making major improvements in docks and launching facilities during the next six months that will make the JIYC an even better location for future Snipe regattas. The hoist has been relocated and actually works now!!!! A second hoist is in the works.
Extra T-shirts designed by Evans Jenkins will be available at the Halloween Regatta.
See you on the circuit,
Steve Burns
