Third Annual GutterSnipe Regatta
Birmingham Sailing Club
April 5-6, 1997

Birmingham Sailing Club, Birmingham, Alabama, was in full April glory of
dogwoods, azaleas and 80 degree temperatures for the 3rd Annual GutterSnipe
Regatta.  Despite an approaching storm front, 5 out-of-state boats and 5
BSC boats participated.  The 20 mph winds with gusts to 30 ahead of the
front prevented racing on Saturday after several boats went out and
unintentionally bathed their boats and their crews in the cold waters of
Logan Martin Lake.  So Snipers played Trivial Pursuit (winning team P.
Neilson, C. Hackett, S. Cline, and B. Moss), took the opportunity to visit
local attractions, enjoyed a delicious barbeque dinner, and talked racing,
racing, racing.

After all night rain, Sunday was partly cloudy with variable winds and we
were able  to get two races in.  John Sepanski and Chris Stahl from St.
Louis took first, Don Hackbarth and Becky Killough, AtlantaYacht Club, were
second, and Mike and Pauline Neilson from BSC were third also winning the
Alabama State Championship.
