1997 Grand Lake Snipe Championship

The 1997 Rocky Mountain Snipe Fleet's Invitational at Grand Lake, Co.
opened with 17 boats from Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois and
Colorado. Each year it seems the boats get newer and the crews get
faster. We have to give extra points to Snipe #9, competing for the
first time in years, on sheer looks and personality. Saturdays races
were all sailed in shifting winds but good and steady. Races were
abandoned around 4:30 and we all met again at Daven Havens Lodge for a
candle light, white tablecloth dinner. The Bow Mar fleet won "best song"
for their rendition of Puff the Magic Sea Breeze.   

Sundays racing was held in very light breeze, but we got 2 good races in
before the day was over. When it was all scored, Steve Tautz again took
the Ed Kueck travelling trophy back to Bowmar.
