October 18 & 19
The Cachuma tradition continues. 18 boats showed up for a variety of sailing condtions. Several new skippers and crews got to experience the wall for the first time.
Saturday was a touch of summer with ninety degree heat, and moderate breezes. In the first race six boats lined up bow to bow for the lead approaching the bottom mark in the canyon. Chuck Tripp lead the day with a solid 2-2-1. The wall had its moments, although Sean Biehl claims it really isn't good until you "start scraping the top of your mast on the cliff," and that doesn't start happening until the water is a bit higher. Well Sean, El Nino and State Water next year should make a difference. You've got a year to buy some Delrin. At the end of the day, the Mayo/Redler Oak Tree struck again. This time it was Grant Hill. Things cooled off a bit Sunday, which also kept the wind down. Jack couldn't make it, So Eddie stepped in to run things. George Szabo finally got the place figured out and racked up a pair of firsts. Some coomunications errors tarnished the last race. John Papadopoulos won the other race to the harbour entrance (sorry John) All in all, the competition was solid top to bottom, the event remains as casual as it is competitive.
