District 6 Junior Championship

        Snipe District 6 hosted the District 6 Junior Championship the
weekend of June 14-15 at Mission Bay Yacht Club. This years event was also a
qualifier for the Junior Worlds to be held this November in Brazil. 

        8 teams sailed a total of 8 races on Mission Bay to determine who
would be heading to South America and taking a week off of school this fall.
When the dust settled Mission Bay's Steve Hochart and John Warnock came out
on top with string of 7 firsts and one second. In second was the Atlanta
team of Dustin Kays and Chris Stang. Dustin and Chris have already qualified
to represent the US in Brazil and came to Mission Bay to get a little
practice in. Rounding out the top three was Southwestern Yacht Club's Marc
Barra and Lisa Harrison.

        The level of talent at the regatta was great with all the sailors
showing great boathandling skills and boatspeed. Older Snipe sailors had
better watcg out because these kids are good!

        Thanks the the Mission Bay Snipe Fleet for donating the use of their
boats and to Doug Hart, the Bowdens, Jeff Baker, George Walker, Jerome
Fournier, Bob Jackman, Russell Oiring and many others the use of their time
to run the races. It was a great weekend. Hope to see you all next year!
