Marjsnipen
Gothenburg, Sweden
May 4-5, 1996
The annual regatta Majsnipen was as usual held the first weekend in
May in Gothenburg, Sweden, thus perfectly coinciding with the World
Snipe Day. Participating were 26 Snipes from Denmark, Norway and
Sweden.
The weather was terrible!! The first day was cold, with rain and no
wind. The second day was cold, with rain and some wind. Still we
managed to sail three races each day with a regatta party on
Saturday. And everybody was happy with a variety of wind and current
directions.
Per and Lars Jorgensen from Denmark handled the difficult conditions
best, discarding a 5th as their worst race. Second came Mattias Alm
(that's me!) and Fredrik Hansson only one point behind and third, one
more point behind, were Kristoffer Spone and Janett Krefting from
Norway. Kristoffer and Janett brought a brand new Persson, wich they
unpacked and rigged on the morning of the first day. Then they came
second in the first race!
As the olympics are drawing nearer some might be interested in olympic
sailors in the Snipe class. Bjorn Alm (sailing with girlfriend
Kristina Rook) and Johan Barne (with sister-in-law Nina) are both in a
Soling with Magnus Holmberg. They are already qualified for the
olympics and are 1st on the Soling ranking (I think) and 7th (or
something) on the Matchracing ranking. Bjorn came 5th here while Johan
was 16th. Now the results:
