The second day of the US Junior National Championship began in 8 knots of wind at the start with 10 boats on the line. The first triangle was fairly light with about 10 knots at the bottom mark, with the wind slowly increasing to 12. Dustin Kays and Nee Cee Hodges led around the entire course finishing with the first of 3 bullets for the day.
Races 2 & 3 were held in the 15 knot range with the crews hiking through short chop and white caps, but in 90 degree air temp and 80 degree water.
As can be seen by the results, Dustin Kays and Nee Cee Hodges of the Atlanta fleet dominated the regatta. A special trophy was presented this year, "The Old Man Diaz Special Junior Trophy" for the top special junior/senior team at the US Nationals. Old Man Gonzalo Diaz started this special category in 1990, and it has proven to be a popular division for the younger juniors not quite ready for a junior/junior team. It was notable this year, as Dustin Kays won this category last year, and was this years winner of the junior/junior trophy.
