Herb Shear Spring Invitiational

The Herb Shear Spring Invitational was held May 27 & 28 at Mission Bay Yacht Club. Sailed in Mission Bay, shifty winds varied from 4 to 14 knots. Race committee did an excellent job with the shifty conditions and 33 snipes on one start line. PRO Stan Betts experimented with a start line which had a mid boat in preparation for the 1996 PCCs and the 1997 Worlds. The mid boat concept defined the line into two segments and allowed the RC to sight from three positions for over earlys. Only one general recall for the entire regatta showed this concept may have some merit.

The race committee team was put together for this event, the District 6 Championships, the Pacific Coast Championships and the Snipe World Championships all to be held off of Mission Bay in the ocean.

Just a plug. SORONZO, a Canadian beverage company, is the official sponsor of the 1997 Snipe Worlds and was served in the bar at Mission Bay for the 1st time this weekend. It was a big hit. Look for it in the near future as it moves into the US market.
