Arco Gran Prix 1996

Arco Gran Prix 1996
Lake Garda, Italy

Arco is a small town, but is located in the northern part of Lake Garda, well known windy racing course. For its first regatta with snipes, Circolo vela Arco has been choosed to host the last selection for the European championship for the italian crews. Normal wind range in northern Garda is from 15 to 22 knots, and we sailed 4 races exactly in those conditions: two saturday, in 18-22 kn, two sunday, in 12-15 kn.

Antonio Bari and Gianmaria Bertanzon took the clearest win ever seen in a national regatta in Italy in the last years, winning all the races; though not being heavy, 140 kg, they showed a better upwind speed (hike hard guys, and you will be faster!), which allowed them to control the race. Second place to Michel-Turazza, who won the selection without winning a single race (but always finishing in the top 3!) and third to the Stuffer bros, young newcomer to the class, who also selected for the europeans in their first year on the snipe.
