The 1994 Atlantic Coast Championships were held at the Surf City Yacht Club 
on the New Jersey Shore, July 23 and 24 and were hosted by the newly renamed 
Barnegat Bay Fleet 256 (was Pine Beach).

The conditions on Saturday started with a southwesterly breeze of 15-20 
knots in the morning, which by race time had built to 25+ due to the 
augmentation of the of the thermally driven sea breeze combined with thunder 
storms associated with an approaching cold front.  With only a handfull of 
competitors initially leaving the dock and the the wind strength increasing, 
the race committee postponed 1 hour in the hope that the breeze would 
moderate.  Eventhough the races were eventually cancelled for the day, 
several boats did go out for some heavy air reaching practice.

On Saturday evening the Club hosted a party in conjuction with the regatta 
with an awesome buffet, open bar and entertainment attracting quite a crowd. 
Additional Kudos go to the locals for providing housing for all competitors!

Sunday brought lighter air allowing for 4 races in increasing breeze from 5 
to about 13 knots.  The somwhat random oscillatory behavior of the breeze 
and lots of eel grass made it very difficult to post consistent finishes, 
but Andy Pimental was very consistent posting straight firsts, with most 
competitors posting at least one "anomalous" finish. The 5th place was 
decided by coin toss due to an unbreakable tie.  The courses were mixed with 
2 olympic and 2 windward/leward. The attendance was lower than anticipated, 
due probably to burnout from the US Nationals held the week earlier.

Disclaimer(s):  If the scores don't add up correctly to the finishing order, 
it is because I copied them quickly as we were trying to get on the road for 
a 9 hr drive home.  The order of finishes ARE correct at any rate.  
Appologies to the crews, as their names were not listed on the score sheet 
and skippers whom I don't know, resulting in only their last names being listed.
